Do I have a short or long water pump?

The technical way to determine whether you have a short or long water pump is by measuring the distance from the back of the pump to the block. If it measures out to 5-7/8” it is a short water pump, if it measures 7-1/4” it is a long water pump. The quick and simple way to determine what pump you have is by putting your fingers behind the timing cover. If you can, it’s a long water pump; if you can’t, it’s a short water pump.
