The history of FRAM® dates back over 70 years when the original chemists, Frederick Franklin and T. Edward Aldam, invented an easily-replaceable oil filtering element at their laboratory in Providence, RI. Automotive oil filters of various types had been on the market for nearly ten years, yet were difficult to install, change and clean. Franklin and Aldam, whose last name combination gave rise to the company name, set out to solve these problems with their revolutionary filters.
FRAM® has actively participated in the world of racing for over 40 years, sponsoring its first motor racing event – the NHRA World Finals in Tulsa, Oklahoma – back in 1967. Our Research & Development experts are often at the tracks helping crews fine-tune their vehicles and providing them with various high performance products designed to meet the strict racing standards of NASCAR® and NHRA®. Research & Development experts test and fine-tune the technology of new products that are developed on the track and often can be used to improve the performance of products for the average automobile.
